South Goa
South Goa, India
Day 3 heads south for pristine beaches and dramatic coastal scenery — the wide sands of Colva, the crescent of Palolem, and the clifftop Cabo de Rama Fort overlooking the Arabian Sea.
Day 1: North Goa — Beaches & Forts
Fort Aguada
Fort Aguada Road, Candolim, Goa 403515, India
A 17th-century Portuguese fort guarding the Mandovi River mouth, built in 1612. Climb to the top for panoramic views of Candolim Beach and the Arabian Sea. The four-story lighthouse is one of the oldest in Asia. Visit early to beat the heat and crowds.
Calangute Beach
Calangute Beach, Calangute, Goa 403516, India
The most popular and commercial beach in North Goa, known as the 'Queen of Beaches'. A 7-km stretch of golden sand lined with shacks, water sports operators, and sunbeds. Try parasailing or jet-skiing, or simply relax under a palm-thread umbrella with a cold King's beer.
Lunch at Britto's Bar & Restaurant
Baga Beach, Baga, Calangute, Goa 403516, India
A legendary beachfront restaurant established in 1976, serving Goan and Continental cuisine right on Baga sand. Try the king prawn balchão, Goan fish curry, or a chilled pint of King's beer. The seafood platter for two is excellent value. Book a table on the upper deck for sea views.
Anjuna Flea Market
Anjuna Beach Road, Anjuna, Goa 403509, India
Goa's most famous market, born from the hippie trail of the 1960s. Hundreds of stalls sell silver jewellery, tie-dye clothing, leather goods, decorative homeware, and spices. Bargaining is expected — start at half the asking price. Cash is king; bring small bills.
Anjuna Beach Sunset
Anjuna Beach, Anjuna, Goa 403509, India
Anjuna Beach is quieter and rockier than Calangute, with dramatic red laterite cliffs framing the coastline. The sunset here is spectacular — find a spot on the rocks or at one of the cliff-top cafes. The Wednesday flea market spills right onto the sand. Swimming is safer at the northern end.
Dinner at Curlies Beach Shack
Anjuna Beach, Anjuna, Goa 403509, India
An iconic Anjuna institution since the 1990s, famous for its laid-back vibe, candlelit tables on the sand, and legendary breakfasts. For dinner, try the grilled red snapper with garlic butter, the Goan pork vindaloo, or the prawn curry with rice. The cocktails are generous — the King's beer mojito is a local favourite.
Day 2: Old Goa & Panjim — Heritage & Spice
Basilica of Bom Jesus
Old Goa, Goa 403402, India
A UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the finest examples of Baroque architecture in India, completed in 1605. It houses the mummified remains of St. Francis Xavier in a silver casket. The interior features intricate gilded woodwork and marble inlay. Dress modestly — shoulders and knees must be covered.
Se Cathedral
Old Goa, Goa 403402, India
The largest church in Asia when built in 1619, dedicated to St. Catherine of Alexandria. The bell tower houses the 'Golden Bell', one of the largest in the world. Step inside to see the impressive gilded altarpieces, the huge nave, and the paintings depicting St. Catherine's life. Free entry; photography allowed without flash.
Lunch at Viva Panjim
178, Rua de Natividade, Fontainhas, Panjim, Goa 403001, India
A charming family-run Goan restaurant tucked away on a quiet lane in Fontainhas. The traditional Goan home-style cooking is exceptional — order the sorpotel with sannas, the chicken cafreal, or the fish recheado. The setting in a lovingly restored Portuguese-era house makes for a memorable lunch. Reserve ahead as it fills with locals.
Fontainhas Latin Quarter
Fontainhas, Panjim, Goa 403001, India
Panjim's atmospheric Latin Quarter, a UNESCO tentative site, with narrow winding lanes lined with colourful Portuguese-era villas. Admire the distinctive Goa-Portuguese architecture with oyster-shell windows, red-tiled roofs, and wrought-iron balconies. Stop at the Chapel of St. Sebastian and the art galleries on Rua de Ourem. The area is best explored on foot.
Sahakari Spice Farm Tour
Khandepar, Ponda, Goa 403401, India
A guided 90-minute walk through a 130-acre spice plantation, learning how vanilla, black pepper, cardamom, nutmeg, and cinnamon are grown and harvested. The tour includes an elephant wash (morning only), spice tea tasting, and a traditional Goan lunch option. Wear comfortable shoes and bring insect repellent. The aromatic garden walk is the highlight.
Dinner at The Fisherman's Wharf
Caridade, Panjim, Goa 403001, India
A riverside restaurant on the Mandovi River with a lively outdoor terrace and a menu celebrating Goan coastal cuisine. Choose from live crab, king prawns, pomfret recheado, and the signature seafood thali. The live music most evenings creates a festive atmosphere. Book a table on the deck for the best river views.
Day 3: South Goa — Pristine Beaches & Coastal Views
Colva Beach
Colva Beach, Colva, Goa 403708, India
South Goa's most famous beach, a vast 25-km stretch of white sand backed by coconut palms. Much quieter than its northern counterparts, with a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. The whitewashed Our Lady of Merces Church overlooks the beach. Try a dolphin-spotting boat trip or simply float in the calm, clear waters. Beach shacks serve fresh coconut water and fried calamari.
Lunch at Martin's Corner
Betalbatim, Colva, Goa 403708, India
A beloved Goan institution since 1986, run by the Martin family. Famous for its lobster thermidor, chicken xacuti, and the legendary pork sorpotel. The beer is served ice-cold in glass mugs. The garden seating under swaying palms is delightful. Don't skip the bebinca — Goa's traditional layered dessert — for a sweet finish.
Palolem Beach
Palolem Beach, Canacona, Goa 403702, India
A stunning crescent-shaped bay lined with colourful wooden shacks and fishing boats, widely considered the most beautiful beach in Goa. The calm turquoise waters are perfect for swimming and kayaking. Rent a kayak to paddle across to Butterfly Beach, or book a sunset boat trip. The southern end (Honeymoon Beach) is quieter and reachable via a short rocky scramble.
Cabo de Rama Fort
Cabo de Rama, Canacona, Goa 403702, India
An abandoned fort perched on a dramatic cliff 60 metres above the Arabian Sea, named after the Hindu god Rama who is said to have stayed here during his exile. The views from the ramparts are breathtaking — watch the waves crash against the laterite cliffs as the sun sets. The small church inside is still used for mass. Bring water and wear sturdy shoes for the uneven terrain.
Farewell Dinner at Palolem
Palolem Beach, Canacona, Goa 403702, India
End the trip with dinner at one of Palolem's charming beachfront shacks. Cozy Palm or The Garden of Dreams offer fresh seafood, wood-fired pizzas, and Goan specialities right on the sand. Order the catch of the day — grilled with garlic and lemon — and toast the trip with a chilled King's beer. The fairy-lit setting and sound of the waves make a magical finale.
